SQL Analyst - Supply Chain
Background to vacancy
The Logistics Strategy Team have developed two Microsoft SQL databases to enable the GM and Foods supply chains to be analysed and to provide data to support modelling and simulation tools. A further database is in development to model GM inventory.
What is the purpose of the job?
The successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining the databases and for providing data and analysis to support modelling, simulation and business projects.
Data acquisition is at day-location-UPC level so the data volumes are challenging (c. 5Tb for GM and 2Tb for Foods). However, correctly managed they provide an invaluable insight into the operation of the supply chain supporting key decisions on strategic direction.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop a deep understanding of how the companies supply chain operates at the most detailed level and help explore how we can drive sales, value and efficiency for the business.
What do you need to achieve?
*Daily, weekly and monthly administration tasks to ensure all data has been successfully acquired, processed, validated and secured.
*Analyse information requirements for modelling, simulation and project tasks and create proposals to deliver data, reports and tools to meet the requirements.
*Implement approved proposals to agreed timescales.
*Provide ad-hoc support and analysis as required.
Technical skills/business skills required
*Microsoft SQL Server experience. You will be dealing with IT support teams so must have good technical knowledge, e.g. basic knowledge of SQL Server System Processes, the ability to read process Ids and deduce server performance bottlenecks.
*SQL query development experience (ideally Transact SQL).
*Excellent Microsoft Access and Excel skills including Visual Basic programming.
*Excellent numerical skills including knowledge and application of statistics.
*Basic understanding of retail supply chains. A working knowledge of M&S supply chain processes and systems would be ideal but this can be developed in candidates with the right technical skills.
*Ability to develop strong and effective relationships with IT support teams.
*Ability to analyse data in high volumes and to interpret results in a commercial context.
*Good interpersonal and communication skills.
