Job Purpose:
• Develop bespoke applications to satisfy business requirements within timescales and to the expected quality.
• Develop tools and produce documentation and reports to assist in the resolution of application issues.
• Learn existing bespoke applications and provide second line support to users.
• Write reports and carry out data analysis to assist the business.
Key Accountabilities:
• Interpret written business requirements and technical specification documents and perform coding to these specifications.
• Develop new tools to assist the helpdesk in supporting the business.
• Complete development specification forms and produce and maintain system and user documentation on the development of systems.
• Write reports and provide users access to the report information they require. Produce ad-hoc reports as required.
• Develop and maintain a good understanding of the data fields, data structures and data flows associated with all business systems to ensure end-to-end integrity of data.
• Provide assistance to the Helpdesk team in supporting bespoke applications and produce documentation to aid this.
• Assist the resolution of major functional or usage problems with bespoke systems that cannot be dealt with by the Helpdesk.
• Perform and document testing of new development. Test changes in the test environment and confirm the results with the relevant departments. Follow Change Management processes and ensure records are kept of relevant changes.
• Keep up to date with new software releases and new products in the area of business systems and assess the potential of new solutions. Share the knowledge with the rest of the team.
• Ensure that systems adhere to audit procedures in accordance with best practice and guidelines as defined by both internal and external auditors. Assist all auditors with their requests for information.
Requirements: Essential/Desireable
• Minimum 2 years experience as a Programmer in a professional Microsoft Windows environment with MS VB.Net.
• Expertise with a reporting tool preferably Crystal Reports, and cube technologies.
• 1-2 years database driven application or website experience.
• Some object oriented coding experience essential.
• Experience accessing and querying SQL databases.
• Experience of Transactional SQL and DTS stored procedures.
• Experience of MS Reporting and Analysis services.
• Experience of web programming.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Exhibit self-sufficiency and initiative working on development projects.
• Good Understanding of data and systems analysis, knowledge of process design and business modelling.
• Experience of problem analysis and resolution.
